Palmerston North City
Known as New Zealand’s Student City, Palmerston North has a population of over 87,000. Massey University’s main campus is located here. The city has excellent high schools and other tertiary institutes. The city is in Manawatu, the centre of the North Island, with close proximity to Wellington (150 km; 2 hours by car or bus), the famous Tongariro National Park ski fields and Lake Taupo (270 km; 3 hours by car or bus), New Zealand’s Art Deco capital, Napier (2 hours by car or bus), and rural Taranaki (3 hours by car or bus). There are transport links (road, bus, and plane) to popular tourist centres further afield such as Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown for weekend travel. Surrounding Palmerston North city you will find beautiful farmland blended with walking tracks in the Taraua and Ruahine Ranges. There is a citywide cycle track and local beaches are 30 minutes (by car) away.
