I've
studied English at ETC for 9 months, so I could pass IELTS to go
to UCOL.
At UCOL I studied Professional Cooking, where we learned many kinds
of foods.
I was worried because all my classmates were local people but they
were very friendly, so I enjoyed that class.
On 25th November I graduated that course as Top Student. I was very
proud.
I had a great time at ETC Learning Centre and UCOL in Palmerston
North New Zealand.

I am really thankful to John and his team at ETC
for giving me excellent support and help to learn English. I came
to NZ three years ago [2004] from Russia, without any knowledge
of either English language or the NZ way of life. Now I am a full-time
studnet at the School of Aviation, Massey University.
My dreams have come true, Thank you ETC for helping

ETC teachers took us to the Marton Maze on 19th January. Before
we went, the teachers gave us a brief introduction. It helped us
to realize where we were going and what we were going to do. This
year (2005) the maze design is Egyptian.
I need to say the teachers at ETC are very nice. They drove their
own cars to take us and prepared soft drink for us. When we arrived
there, we had a good lunch together before going into the Ghost
House.

We
wore 3D glasses. It made the effect more scary. Sometimes there
were real persons who pretended to be a ghost or a freak man who
touch or scare us. You could hear girls screaming and boys laughing.
Finally, we found the way out. I was glad to see the sun
After the Ghost House, we went into the maze and had the competition.
AT geginning, our group had confidence, but after choosing the wrong
way, and going in circles in the hot sun, we wanted to give up.
Meanwhile, the other team joked with us "Lift your flagm then
you can go home!" At the moment, we really considered going
back. However, Marie, [our teacher] encouraged us to finish this
maze, she believed we could do it. We cheered up and accomplished
the maze together.
Thanks to ETC for holding an awesome outing for us. It makes me
feel we are like a big family in Palmerston North.

Hi,
my name is MATSUOKA Risa.
I lived in Palmerston North,
New Zealand for one year and 9 months. I learned many things that
I would never have
learn't about in Japan.
I went to ETC Learning Centre for 22 weeks. I think the school was
really good to me and I got score for my IELTS exam. They have a lot
of good teachers, and administrators. You can ask anything you want
they will help you and give you suggestions.
My
class had 10-13 students. They came from China, Korea, Japan and Thailand.
My teachers were really friendly and kind, so I could ask many things
about how to improve my reading or how to write better stories. I
talked about rugby games with my tutor ( I like ALL BLACKS

The
school had a lot of activities for example a sports day! (I played
football and basketball with my classmates!) We went canoeing
on a lake. We also went to a farm, made some Easter eggs, had
a Christmas party and so on.
ETC arranged work experience for me at a small shop. I worked
as a volunteer every Saturday or afternoon at the Trade Aid
shop in Palmerston North for 6 months.
I truly enjoyed being a volunteer. My jobs were opening the
shop and cashier, customer services, cleaning up the shop and
closing the shop and counting the money. All the shop workers
are volunteers. The aim of the shop is to help poor people in
other countries. The money from the shop goes back to the people
who make the products in countries such as; Malaysia, Viet Nam,
India, Korea and so on. I enjoyed communicating with customers
but sometimes it was hard to understand what the customer wanted
because if I've never heard the name of the product, so I couldn't
find it, so another volunteer helped me alot. It was a good opportunity
to improve my English especially, speaking and listening skills.
I was glad to choose ETC because I was able to pass my English
test. They also arranged for me to go to UCOL, the local Polytechenic
school to study hospitality course. I gained a Certificate in
Food and Beverage Services NZQA-level 3. Now I have a good job
working in Japan but I miss my friends in New Zealand.

Last June I
was very happy to get an opportunity to study finance at Massey
University. My goal is to get a masters degree in two years. After
one semester's study, I found I had some problems in listening and
speaking, so I decided to study at ETC in the summer holidays to
improve my English.
Although my
friend told me ETC was an excellent language school, I am still
not sure how much I can learn in the 12 week period. I worked hard
and the teachers helped me very much. It was very good for my University
studies and I plan to study and improve my English at ETC in my
next holiday break.
